Holiday Road was started as a (mostly anonymous) blog about family travel and also an homage to Clark W. Griswold of National Lampoon Vacation fame. Ever since the opening credits rolled and the infectious tune “Holiday Road” by Lindsey Buckingham came on, I have been fascinated with seeing the world. I was always thinking of how Clark was the pinnacle family man, and how I wanted to go on all of those amazing adventures! I have always wanted to walk in the steps of Clark’s awkward greatness. Fast forward about 20 years, and now that I have a family of my own, I thought, why not chronicle all of our family travels! Of course, what fun would it be if vacations never had any hiccups? Griswold family vacations certainly had their fair share of them, and I am sure yours have too. I’ve never had a family vacation go perfectly, so why try and recount our travels through rose colored lenses? It’s my aim to chronicle the adventures I have with my family (immediate and sometimes extended), and make fun of what went wrong and talk about other snafus we encounter along the way. Even though these tales may have a lot of unexpected ups and downs, I’ll also tell you about all the good stuff. Lastly, I won’t forget to sprinkle in some wisdom from the quintessential family man, Clark W. Griswold (and maybe a few “not what to do’s” and “travel hacks”).
